Introduction: Our family was fortunate enough to be sent to East Africa in 1967 by an educational program through Columbia University so that my dad, in his words could "Teach teachers how to teach science". We spent an incredible 2 years living and experiencing East Afica. We lived in the small town of Ngora, Uganda. My sister Cheryl and I attended boarding school in neighboring Kenya while my younger brother Vernon was home schooled in Uganda.
Ever since returning to the US 2 years later, I’ve always wanted to come back to Africa to live. In 1991, I became a Christian and, while serving on the missions committee, the “tug of war” with God began. The Bible tells us that God will give us the “desires of our hearts”. God’s desire for me was to return to Africa as a missionary. On May 8th, 2015, I landed in Malawi, Africa to assist in fresh- water well drilling, “farming God’s way”, community evangelism, and T-Net discipleship. Since then, through a local church. my ministry has expanded to include men’s ministry, monthly service projects to widows. orphans, hospitals, prisoners, and training to plant disciple making churches here in Malawi.
RECENT EVENTS
As you can see, my plate at times is overflowing. God has blessed me with a "helper" and beautiful wife named Wezzie. A major breakthrough with the prison ministry occurred as a result of the "Love Malawi" 4 city evangelical tour within Malawi. The evangelist Andrew Pulaw (check spelling b4 printing-check the men's ministry or ministry folder for flier) from Seattle, Washington brought the good news of the gospel through word, song, entertainment and community outreaches. We were then allowed to minister in the local prisons and meet with the wardens on how our prison ministry "Free in Chains" could offer assistance and/or support in their prisons to help address some of the many issues of prison life.
The short and long term goals of "Free in Chains"
Help supply basic needs such as food, toiletries, medicine, etc
Assist with job training program (welding, construction and tailoring). "Love Malawi" provided the machines to supplement the programs
Agricultural program to feed and raise revenue
Build outdoor shelters from sun and rain
Development of Volleyball and Chess teams
Assist local pastor in prison ministry with worship, bible studies, pastoral training and counseling
Mentoring and follow up with local police, village pastors/elders of released inmates
